Review of Danny Collins (2015) by Tim M — 17 Aug 2017
'Danny Collins' is about an ageing superstar of a musician who spontaneously decides to turn his life around and attempt to earn some measure of redemption before he completely loses control. If the general story sounds familiar, that's because it is -- it's one that's been told countless times before and, to my mind, in a much better and more engaging way.
Having said that, Pacino's performance as the titular character is riveting making things far more interesting than they should be and, ultimately, elevating the film to slightly above average viewing, particularly in combination with the family theme.
Unfortunately, most of the other characters are simply bland, however likeable they may be, and the story doesn't really feel like it reaches its full potential.
