Review of Dangerous Beauty (1998) by Sabra E — 16 Apr 2011
This period piece was half hard to watch and half delightful. The love story involving a wealthy politician forced to marry a woman from a wealthy family, by his family--for duty, versus marrying a less wealthy family friend for love, was a bit on the cheesy side. I blame this on twenty too many looks of longing and a premise that's been a bit overdone in Cinderella stories.
Then you have the girl getting coaxed into becoming a courtesan (high priced hooker) by her mother who is a retired master courtesan (a sexual pro and a half). With the best training possible, and maybe even innate skills brewed to a splendid foam, the girl becomes very popular with a large handful of Venetian men: married, single, churchy, raunchy.
She is treated with high honor, she's major loaded from charging premium dime. In the meantime, her ex--now married to a religious and barren sea with of wealth, is drooling after her, begging for her favors. Does she give in? What do you think?
