Review of Dances with Wolves (1990) by Elliott F — 27 Jun 2010
What Kevin Costner has created here may not be a perfect film, but it's a film that should be cherished. The same story has since been done with slight variations (as in Pocahontas or Avatar), but this is still the most resonant and emotionally hard-hitting.
Acting is adequate, nothing to write home about, and the screenplay is above average. The cinematography is gripping, however, and the always reliable John Barry creates a sumptuous score that should live on just as long as the film will.
Overall, everyone should see Dances with Wolves. It's not the best movie out there, but I believe it's an important thing to experience.
