Despite having been remade over and over again under a thousand different titles using a thousand different leading mean falling in love with a local "savage" female...this is still a heavily underrated film.

Obviously it was well applauded at the time of its release but it really hasnt stood the test of time criticially, event though its really the pinnacle of all the films that came since, even Avatar. Costner is a touch cardboard, especially through his voice-overs, but its Greene, Grant and McDonnell which perform the most admirably.
