Review of Dancer in the Dark (2000) by Arseniy V — 21 Dec 2010
Bjork is, in my opinion, one of the worst singers to ever land a music contract. Her acting is somewhat decent, but this does turn into a musical so you can guess what that means.
The plot is not so bad and plays itself out well enough. I like dramatic irony and there is plenty of that in this movie as what we know and the characters don't very much creates the emotion. But it really strives to be hugely emotional. Why in the hell would you cast Bjork if that's what you want, and why not do a little research? The final 30 minutes or so were so intent on making the audience cry that the writing kind of went by the wayside. More like...hey, we have an ending, let's forget the means and just make sure we get the ending. In doing so, I think they ruin any chance of credibility and really took me out of the movie.
