Review of Dancer in the Dark (2000) by Frances H — 05 Sep 2015
An unconventional musical with an excellent performance from Bjork. It's probably the least depressing Lars Von Trier movie I've seen but it still has some dark moments. The musical numbers especially I've Seen It All are well written and crafted plus a great cameo from Joel Grey in the court room song.
I wasn't a big fan of the way it was shot, I think it would have benefited from being shot in the traditional way rather than the way they ended up going with. But still, it is a very interesting movie with a great breakout performance.
