Review of Dance with a Stranger (1985) by Louise H — 28 Jun 2009
The Ruth Ellis story is real tragedy, complete with a flawed heroine, superbly portrayed by Miranda Richardson, and a doomed, ultimately mutually destructive affair. Rupert Everett is a dream piece of casting, doing what he does best in his portrayal of the loose, louche, self-centred, upper-crust bastard.
There's also a great supporting cast, including Joanne Whalley (star of one of my other favourite movies, Scandal) and Ian Holm is a particular stand-out. Like Titanic, you know how it's going to end, but the journey is still well worth making.
