Review of Damnation Alley (1977) by Michael T — 02 Dec 2011
Roger Zelaney's book upon which this film was based was way better. Within a few years of this films release both Jan Michael Vincent and George Peppard were starring in forgettable Reagan-era TV series.
It's hard to imagine that 20th Century Fox actually thought this film would outperform STAR WARS at the box office in the summer of '77; so they released George Lucas' film first expecting it to quickly fade away and for DAMNATION ALLEY to be the top Sci-Fi contender for the summer season.
It is not as bad as some critics thought it was, but its no diamond in the rough either.
