Review of Dagon (2001) by Ricky D — 14 Jun 2006
You want atmopshere? It has a name: DAGON. This bad ass little flick involves a couple on vacation who, after a boating accident, are forced into the rainy Spanish town of Imboca. The problem? Imboca is populated by fish people, and they worshipped a pissed off fish god named Dagon.
While the film boils down to chase after chase, there's no denying it: the fish people are CREEPY AS FUCK, the film is exquisitely shot, and there are some nasty gore pieces like a man being skinned alive from the his head.
I didn't toally dig the ending, but it worked. Also, props to the casting people: the lead fish "princess" is played by this creepy, weird assed looking girl who just fits the role like a glove in hand.
