Review of Dagon (2001) by Jonathan H — 26 Sep 2004
I thought this one was an older movie but it actually came out a few years ago.
This movie has the feel of a b-movie, straight-to-video, especially in the beginning. the acting was bad and the first ten minutes of the film were questionable. did I mention the special effects? in a word, cheesy. but, im sympathetic to what I assume would be budgetary restraints.
Dagon is based on an H.P. Lovecraft story and does a mostly good job of building suspense. It has a few scary moments and a nice, rainy atmosphere throughout. It's set in a seaside village where the locals worship their Pagan god, Dagon. Anyhoo, things get real interesting and the plot seems very familiar. Although, the guy should have taken off his sweatshirt to blend in a little more.
