Review of Dagon (2001) by Anthony L — 17 Feb 2007
This film really grew on me. The first time I watched it I was hoping for some really good monster action from the title god, which I didn't get. However, being a huge Lovecraft fan, I soon grew to realize that this way was far more accurate to the spirit of the author, so that won over the monster loving little kid in me.
Anyway, I've read Dagon, repeatedly, but have yet to read The Shadow Over Innsmouth, the story from which this film is primarily derived, so I can't comment on its accuracy to the story. Still, the creatures are creepy, there's one truly painful gore scene, and its terrifically shot.
One of the better Lovecraft adaptations from the team that does it best.
