Review of Daddy's Home (2015) by Titan R — 11 Jan 2016
Don't take this movie too seriously, and you might actually have a good time. Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell produce excellent comedic chemistry, and feed off each other brilliantly in most scenes.
Will Ferrell plays the role of a doting, conforming step-dad trying to be seen as a father to his stubborn step-kids. He seems to be making progress when the kids real dad, played by the macho Mark Wahlberg, enters the picture, sporting an impressive motorcycle, connections to celebrities and a general cool-guy persona.
Some of the jokes are a hit and miss, as you would expect from a PG-13 slapstick comedy, and the 1 hour, 16 minute run time legitimately feels like an eternity. There's only so many ways you can package the same joke (Will Ferrell makes an attempt to impress his family, only to be stood up by the Mark Wahlberg or simply his own incompetence at being masculine).
It's a hit and miss comedy, but produces enough laughs to be considered tolerable. Recommend for a cheap laugh.
