Review of Daddy's Home (2014) by Tony C — 30 Mar 2016
" ... suffers from a dearth of genuinely funny ideas - and lacks enough guts or imagination to explore the satirical possibilities of its premise." said a review that I almost 100 percent disagree with.
Considering the horrible juvenile schlock that comes out about families, and the stuff I've most often seen Will Ferrel in that pass for comedies, I watched this movie with trepidation, expecting the usual gamut of scenes of dogs humping legs, vomit being featured, women being outraged by the buffoonery of men, and men doing nothing but lying and acting stupid.
Did this movie have those elements. Yeah, to some extent it did. But, it still managed to go beyond all that and to be a charming and interesting film about blended families and how to make them work.
And, there were a couple of giant laughs. All without getting too gross or insulting any gender or age group too much. Loved it!
