The film is bad. It was obviously a bad concept to begin with but somehow it made it past all the production phases and the big stars attached their names to it...God knows why. Mel Gibson earned a razzie nomination for his performance.
..I honestly didn't think he was the worst in this movie. I thought John Lithgow was the worst. John Lithgow plays the same person in every movie he is in and personally I found this more tiresome than Mel Gibson.
There are some real cheesy moments in this film. It feels like they tried to include female characters but the women are shoe horned in with almost no dialouge and only help to make the film drag. I feel like this is not even a comedy movie in the comedy genre, it is more of a Christmas movie.
In general there are lower expectations for Christmas movie's and for that reason I am unsure about how to score this movie. The movie is not a Christmas film either it just feels like a cop out excuse by the film company.
They made a kind of Christmas, comedy hybrid they hoped would hit big in either market. The were badly wrong. It is kind of insulting that they did that. It's insulting that otherwise good actors and performers lended their name to this movie.
The movie does have some Christmas cheer, it has the odd laugh, overall it is hugely forgettable.
