Review of D3: The Mighty Ducks (1996) by Malachi S — 09 Oct 2014
All five of these stars go to Jeffrey Nordling for his strong, believable performance as Coach Orion. You have to give this guy credit. Basically everything was against him on this project: he had never appeared in the previous movies, was given a bad script, played a one-and-a-half dimensional character-and yet in the third installment of an established franchise, this unknown journeyman actor was expected to replace the star of the series, Emilio Estevez, who despite making little more than a cameo, is advertised to the public as the lead of this film on the GODDAMN POSTER.
Imagine going to see the third Indiana Jones movie expecting to see Harrison Ford cracking a whip, but instead you got Emilio Estevez doing who cares what? Except this was more like going to see Harrison Ford and getting Jesus Christ.
Assuming Christ was a good method actor. Indeed, the fact that Nordling survived this film with his dignity intact wasn't just a matter of skating over thin ice. It was walking on water. I mean that.
I mean it.
