Review of Cyrus (2010) by Ollie W — 03 Jul 2011
Excruciating off-beat comedy from the Duplass brother's that showcases John C. Reilly's likeable buffoonery in an excellent central performance as the hopeless bachelor who lucks out on a beautiful single mum who comes with some obese and obscene baggage. Great comedy is drawn out of Reilly's interactions with the spiteful son (the also excellent Jonah Hill) and his tolerant and well-meaning ex-wife (Catherine Keener). The script is littered with wonderful stand-out moments of painful hilarity, often at the expense of the character's it has most affection for.
Unusual and memorable, this is a good, off-beat, enjoyable, adult comedy that should be seen.
