Review of Cyrano de Bergerac (1990) by Jeffrey K — 07 May 2008
Forget all the stuff you heard at school about this being a 'teachers film' - it is so much more than that.
Full of sharp wit, pithy dialogue and a plot with balls, this film is well worth seeing even if elements are predictable.
Although dialogue is all in French and it's a love story, somehow this gives it a poetic quality which gracefully avoids cliches which so many other films get caught in (eg 'Girl next door' towards the end).
This movie is definitely worth repeated viewing and the best part? It is given away with magazines and papers. I would say go buy a copy but... no neeeed!
