Review of Cyrano de Bergerac (1990) by Joseph P — 23 May 2008
This is a fantastic movie and easily among my favorites. Depardieu does a fantastic job in his role as long witted and long nosed swordsman and quickly steals any scene where he recites his poetry (had this been an English-speaking movie, I have no doubt that Depardieu would have won the Academy Award for Best Actor and indeed should have won it regardless).
The other actors are fantastic as well across the entire cast list. Rostand's famous scenes such as the balcony scene with Roxanne and Cyrano under the guise of Christian are all fantastically recreated for film; Cyrano's death scene is so perfectly directed, filmed, and acted that it will rank among the great cinematic moments of the '90 if not all time.
