Review of Cyberbully (2011) by Red B — 05 Sep 2012
The film shows in a very decent manner an increasingly disturbing threat that is part of the society today. Definitely worth a watch especially if you are one of those cyberbullies or want to be. Just to see the effect of what can happen.
Apart from that the film has some major flaws, which even a newbie in system and network administration can see. Each server on which a site is hosted has log files. Such sites like this one (or Facebook, Myspace etc.) have huge amount of statistics that are stored aside (for analysis, tracking and so on). Many school cyberbullies don't know anything about security and covering their tracks up. And "James" didn't look like the geek-type. So just a short view in the logs (we are talking about a couple of days of stored data not years!) we provide sufficient information on the IP address etc. And since we are talking about bullying from home (stupid enough to do that, mind you) the internet provider can deliver the bully on a plate.
