Review of Cutthroat Island (1995) by Doug M — 12 Feb 2011

Reading through film histories other websites, I found out that "Cutthroat Island" is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest box office flop of all time. That stunned me at first; this is just a good, cheap pirate film. Why would it bomb? Then I saw the budget for it: $90 million. For this??? It's just a cheap pirate film! What did they spend all that money on??? $90 mil is like an item in the Federal budget. Yeah, the sets looked good, but were all the jewels in the treasure chests real or what???

But anyway, I enjoyed it for what it was, and I thought Frank Langella did a great job as the evil pirate Dawg Brown. See it sometime for some good, mindless fun. 3 stars.
