Review of Cutthroat Island (1995) by Chris U — 10 Nov 2012
Before Pirates of the Caribbean sailed to theaters, there was a movie called Cutthroat Island. It was really hard for director Renny Harlin in the 90's. First, he garnered great financial successes including films like Die Hard 2 and the ever-popular Cliffhanger to becoming a smaller A-lister whose movie, Cutthroat Island, was the only problem defunct Carolco Pictures should've been completed the movie after the studio diminished in November '95.
One month during the Christmas weekend, the film was (according to the Guiness Book of World Records) considerably one of the most miserable and embarrassing box office openings of all time and it was "bah, humbug" for the studio.
They messed up and cost them they're walking papers. However, I think Cutthroat Island was one of my favorite most underrated cult classics of the 90's because whenever there's sometimes a bad reputation or loss of audience may eventually hurt a movie's chances at #1.
But whether you owned a DVD or wait for a Blu-Ray release, there's always a reboot might be in the future and start a franchise for the ill-fated movie. Whether the critics loves or hates him, I still respect Mr.
Hamlin, one of the greatest directors of all time.
