Those who see Cutthroat Island and immediately dismiss it as nothing more than a bad movie need to see more movies. I've seen movies MUCH worse than this, and this one isn't half bad. Don't get me wrong though.
It's not a masterpiece or anything, but it reminds me a lot of Masters of the Universe (and not just because Frank Langella co-stars in it). But it's one of those movies that you can look back at with new eyes and think 'Huh, why did I think this was completely terrible?' It's not, it's actually pretty enoyable and a nice swashbuckling adventure.
It may be cliche'd and Geena Davis may be pretty terrible in the film, but I can't deny that I enjoyed watching it. So is it perfect? No, it isn't. But is it underrated? Yes, it certainly is.
