Review of Cutie and the Boxer (2013) by Lindsay B — 10 Feb 2014
The couple at the center of Cutie and the Boxer is endearing and easy to get taken by. They're mismatched, and the film hints at darker periods in their relationship fueled by alcohol, but they clearly love each other and are both amazing artists.
The film examines their relationship in combination with the life of a struggling artist, barely scraping enough to get by. I definitely wouldn't have nominated it for Best Documentary, I'm not too into art and found it slow at times, but it is an unconventional subject matter that makes for a mostly interesting and welcome deviation.
