Review of Cure (1997) by Florence . — 17 Dec 2010
6.0/10 --.
Kiyoshi Kurosawa knows how to do scary. If this had been a straight up horror pic like "Kairo" it probably would have done better in my book. As it is now, "Cure" is an incredibly vague surrealist pic with the occasional moment of inexplicable terror. The film is deliberate to the point of staleness, yet creepy enough to keep your attention. This, I guess, works kind of. Where things really fall flat are with the characters, all of which seem completely devoid of life (this may or may not have been the point, but either way it's not much fun to watch).
