Review of Cul-de-sac (1966) by Christopher R — 12 Jun 2007
Strangely modern in its bizarre story and execution, this is a fascinating movie to watch. Cul-de-Sac is way ahead of its time, and has undoubtedly been a blueprint for a throng of later, so-called "offbeat" noir-comedy-drama-hybrids (that swamped the 90s in particular).
As with most other movies of its ilk, it's all about the balance between weird-good and just weird when it comes to how successful it is, and Cul-de-Sac rarely veers off its path.
A rock solid cast and gorgeous cinematography does it no harm either.
