Review of Cujo (1983) by Ray D — 16 Oct 2009
Cujo is a big lovable St. Bernard that gets bitten by a rabid bat and goes DOG CRAZY. Violence ensues, on a steady progression of character actors, none of whom get to make much of an impact until Dee Wallace, who is pretty terrific as the dog's owner, trapped with her son in a car by the rampaging mutt.
An excellent example of the film version of a book trying to change the story to give it a more upbeat ending, and accidentally giving proceeds a much more morbid twist. I can't decide if I find the movie poster for this one hilarious or terrifying.
Either way, they cut out a lot of the novel's subplot about the family's domestic troubles, and it may be for the best. At the end of the day however, this is a film about a rabid dog run amuck, and that's the sort of thing you have to be in a very specific kind of mood to see.
(Or at least, I do, I don't know about you folks).
