Review of Cube Zero (2004) by B M — 04 Apr 2005
I'm like, exhausted by bad movies. we rented sideways but decided to watch cube zero first to save the best for last.
Sooooo, if the second cube wasn't enough for you, they made a third one, which is this. it's a PREQUEL, though, as if that's any better?
Anyway, let's reuse the same formula from the original movie, and interject a few guys that act as overseers of the whole cube thing. alright, good good. on the right track.
Nothing really spectacular to speak of really. I wasn't violently offended by anything, nor was I wowed. well ... I was almost wowed by the obligatory opening sequence of someone exploring the cube alone and dying a horrible death. this time it was a weird spray that turned into a gelatin on contact and made the guy's skin slip off like a wet raincoat. awesome!
Blah blah blah, movie, blah. I think that the stupidest thing this movie did was reinject one of the cube techs back into the structure after erasing his memory. seems alright until he wakes up and seems ... mentally handicapped? then he says "i want to go back to the green room." hmm. weird. then, he stands up and starts banging his head against the wall. then ... it seems that they are reusing the script from the original movie? exactly? camera focuses on other people in the room. ODDLY REMINISCENT OF THE ORIGINAL CAST. alright. bye.
I'm glad that was the end. at least they didn't overdo it.
It has to be said that this movie was totally average and STILL better than the most recent major motion pictures i've seen.
Shame.
