Review of Cube (1998) by Will K — 20 Feb 2011
This film is definetely a mixed bag, the idea is solid and the way they play and introduce it is extremely smart. Nowadays though the whole strangers trapped in weird situations having to survive is such a bland genre that I find myself itching for the paper thin characters to move along so I can predict their next moves.
Not only are the characters paper thin but most of them are overacted to say the least and the only interesting characters either get undermined or ignored. However there are two characters (an suicidal cynic and an autistic man) who lit up the scenes.
However the fact that they never explain what the cube is made the film bearable and the all around mix of mystery and suspense made it worth finishing. However the complete disregard of unique characters made me bored with them after 2 minutes.
