Review of Cube (1998) by Scott C — 08 Nov 2012
I'm ambivalent about this one. It reminds me of Primer, another low-budget sci-fi movie that has good word of mouth... which I didn't care for at all. As in Primer, we basically have a limited set and a bunch of talking heads.
For me, the opening sequence was awesome. Everything else was a letdown. The acting, aside from Hewlett, is poor - overacting rules the day. The premise is interesting, however all the anti-establishment rhetoric bogged it down enough that it didn't flow well.
However, it is good enough that other movies, like Saw, used aspects of the premise to better effect.
