Review of C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America (2005) by Ben B — 04 Aug 2010
A fascinating concept that is, on the whole, very well thought out and executed. A little slow at times, but the satirical observations are regularly acute and put across the message of the film clearly yet incredibly subtly.
The documentary style is incredibly authentic, and the "commercial breaks" throughout generally work well and help construct the wider universe of the film. The handful of humorous moments were welcome and fitting without cheapening the film as a whole.
Highly rewarding and intelligent cinema - just watch when you are prepared to subject yourself to the documentary format for an hour and a half.
