This documentary manages to capture every frustrating nuance of its subject. Absolutely fascinating, both for its humanity and interest in such a sad and twisted family (the Crumb brothers must certainly be some of the most frightening siblings ever to walk the planet), and for its discussions on the nature of artwork.

Were this documentary created by anyone else, it might have avoided the tough aspects of R. Crumb's odd perversions and undeniable hypocrisies, but instead--though we don't forgive the man his faults--we are intent on understanding him.

This review of Crumb (1995) was written by on 05 Sep 2007.

Crumb has generally received very positive reviews.
