Review of Crumb (1995) by Pat O — 22 May 2008
A highly intriguing and disturbing documentary about prolific cartoonist Robert Crumb and the people around him. He's a very miserable overly-horny individual who has been living in the past his whole life, and his brother Charles who he speaks to the most is quite possibly the most depressing person to ever life; no wonder he commited suicide shortly after production.
Robert makes countless mentions throughout the movie of planning a move to France to get away from San Francisco where "everyone wears an advertisement on their chest" and where he can't relate to anyone, which he finally does at the end.
Very sad, depressing and compelling, but it's no match for the lasting effect the eerily-similar The Devil and Daniel Johnston had on me.
