Review of Crumb (1995) by Dillon F — 28 Oct 2008
Superb documentary that unfolds like a classic suspense film. Terry Zwigoff strategically reveals the many layers of Robert Crumb's psyche so that even the most innocuous moments in the film eventually take on a deeper meaning.
Yet Zwigoff does not resort to pat theories to explain his subject. Rather, he allows the viewer to draw his or her own conclusions about this controversial artist and his work. At times funny, moving, and disturbing, Crumb is a powerful and haunting film.
