Review of Crumb (1995) by Alex S — 17 Aug 2010
Very interesting movie. Crumb was an excellent choice to make a documentary about. He, and his family, have lots of character, if nothing else.
I had heard a little bit about R. Crumb, I'd seen his artwork out and about a little bit, but I was never fascinated by any of it. I'm still not. I appreciate it a little bit more though...a little bit.
I can definitely see the critic's point of view. It is vile, and disgusting, and makes statements, perhaps, but not THAT much of a statement.
It's still fascinating though.
This was a very well-made documentary. I don't know much about documentaries, I know that this one is celebrated. Zwigoff is talented.
This really goes deep into Crumb's character, why he draws what he draws. You really sympathize, but then again, it's really funny all the way through. You laugh, but still feel a little sorry for the guy, even though he's rich and famous.
Really well-done.
