Review of Crumb (1995) by Ryan V — 12 May 2012
Directed by Terry Zwigoff, Crumb follows the life and career of Robert Crumb, a popular and controversial underground cartoonist. Crumb made waves in the late 60's with his psychadelic comics, but he also attracted negative criticism for his depictions of race, gender, sexuality, drug use, incest, and other taboo subjects.
This documentary provides insight to Crumb's career while delving into the dysfunctional family background that shaped the man. I found this film to be fascinating since I was already a follower of Crumb's work, but I'd imagine that a neophyte would find the movie interesting as well.
