Review of Crumb (1995) by Ian T — 23 Jun 2018
Just because you are nerdy outsider, rejected by society, doesn't mean you are morally superior to that society. Maybe Crumb is as sadistic as the people he stereotypes. He never got a chance to do it in real life, only in comics.
I have to say, this doc didn't make me want to read his comics. He seems kind of juvenile and reactionary. His comics main merits seem to be breaking taboos. The attitude of 'let's move to France cos America is oppressive' is so naive. But the level and type of dysfunction represented by him and his family is so widespread, yet so underrepresented in films, that this is worth a watch.
