Review of Cruising (1980) by Alex P — 27 Oct 2007
Reviled when it was released, it was way way ahead of its time. There are scenes in this film that you would be unlikely to see in any place or movie today.
There is an interesting subtext to this thriller that you might snicker at, but then again it's a hugely watchable film that never resolves itself. Pacino is all method, and I think Brad Davis' straight brother plays the drag hooker.
Far more compelling now then it was then, and it also has that lurid Friedkin component. His commentary in the dvd liberates this misunderstood film even further.
