Review of Cruising (1980) by Steve E — 07 Mar 2009
A little gem that was ahead of it's time when released. I only saw it years later, and thought it was a daring thriller, considering that Pacino has to play a cop who becomes attracted to the gay world while undercover in levis & leather gay bars.
This film is set in New York City, and the bars we see are the real thing. It is based on some true case, and Pacino is a charm to watch. He's real funny when he dances with another man at a Leather club, we should call his dance Da Pacino!! Overall a great whodunnit, set in the New York gay scene and nightlife of 1980.
Authentic, and Dark! This obscure work from Pacino and Friedkin is like a diamond in the rough. Had it been more developed, etched, and polished, it could have become a masterpiece.
