Review of Cruising (1980) by Ben E — 12 Sep 2012
A film like this could not be made today and well when it came out it was highly controversial. Friedkin successfully makes a dark, nitty gritty movie about an underground subculture that hasn't been seen in many mainstream movies.
Yes it's over-the-top, yes it will make some people uncomfortable but the imagery is hauntingly good and the acting (as always with Pacino) is perfect. The best part (arguably) is it's highly ambiguous ending, it left me shell shocked in my seat.
Highly recommended for avid movie goers who would like to see a film in which many thrillers steal from nowadays.
