Review of Croupier (1998) by Matthew L — 23 Apr 2015
This is a manly movie. Jack Manfred (Clive Owen) needs his next novel to be a hit, and once hired part time as a croupier, realizes there's all kinds of drama surrounding him: dodgy punters who explode over a bad beat, mafioso dealings in the back room, and all shades of other employees trying to nick their own piece of the action.
Jack, consciously or not, engages in some of his own vigilante justice (see also: Shoot 'Em Up), though in some way sublimates his urge to partake - his mantra of "I do not gamble" surely cannot be followed upon, cannit?
