Review of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny (2016) by Asher K — 12 Dec 2016
Following my initial excitement at this movie's announcement, I was disappointed at one of the worst trailers in memory for the film. This turned out to be for the best, however, as I came in with the expectation that this would be more of a wire-fu B-movie, filled with stilted dialogue, rushed plots and sappy romances rather that CTHD or Hero.
I got exactly what I expected, and was able to appreciate the movie for its fun action and costume design. CTHD is one of my all-time favorite movies, so without the forced connections to CTHD, this is a 3-star rating; however, my biggest problem with this movie is that it unravels some of the most powerful elements of that movie, turning the Green Destiny from just a really great sword into the Holy Grail, and painfully wastes an amazing returning actor Michelle Yeoh and the great Donnie Yen.
This one stings a bit.
