Review of Crossing the Bridge: The Sound of Istanbul (2005) by Malin N — 23 Oct 2006
I discovered the director Fatih Akin (we're the same age but hes just so gifted and talanted I'm in total awe) when he made fantastic Gegn die Wand. This is a documentary about all sorts of music you meet in Istanbul.
One of my friends who is born in Istanbuk saw it seven times in one week. I saw it hree times. Istanbul is (next to Stockholm) one of the most beautiful cities in the world and I love it. That is one of the reasons I loved this film.
It is NOT a glossy postcard from the sity - it dares to show different faces of Istanbul. And the music - wow. Unforgettable artists and young rappers. And Alexander Hacke from Einstürzende Neubauten who walks around, listens, plays and talks to people.
It doesn't get better than this.
