Review of Crossing Over (2009) by Michael R — 07 Nov 2010

This movie will draw a lot of comparisons to the Best Picture Winner Crash, mostly due to the way the stories are told, which are in an interweaving form. It's hard to seperate this movie from those comparisons because Crash, at least in my opinion, was the best of these similarly told movies in recent memory.

However, trying to examine this movie on its own footing, I would say I didn't respond to it fully. I was never fully eneveloped in these characters or their situations. Although there are some bright spots (the robbery scene) and some interesting points of view, it never really took me over.

Perhaps it was too heavy handed, or perhaps too preachy, but whatever the case, it will only draw comparisons to Crash and never realize the comparable success.
