Review of Crossing Over (2009) by Dave J — 13 Jan 2011
This is a pleasant surprise for film I had relatively no interest in watching. Ford movies have been subpar of late, but he delivers a strong performance as a conscientious immigration officer. The Crash-like story intertwines the lives of law enforcement, bureaucrats, lawyers, new citizens, and the illegal residents that tie everyone together.
I had incorrectly assumed the film was only about Mexicans crossing the border; rather, the film smartly considers the difficulties of residency for men and women of different ages, cultural backgrounds and economic standing.
The film can be a little slow, but tension and emotion help build interest.
