Review of Crossing Over (2009) by Holly K — 29 Jun 2009
A little heavy-handed with the political messages (our post 9-11 immigration policies are reactionary and hypocritical) but since I agreed with most of them, I didn't mind. I love movies like this with multiple characters and interlocking stories, especially, when, like this one, they aren't joined by fantastical coincidences.
Reminds me a little of Crash especially since it's set in LA but I think the take on human nature is a bit more optimistic. In this movie the villians are the policies and The Government as much as or more than individuals.
If you're looking for something that goes a bit beyond typical Hollywood fluff (but not too far beyond) and you aren't a Tom Tancredo fan, I would recommend this movie even though it might make you sad.
