Review of Crossing Over (2009) by Patrick L — 21 Aug 2010
Although it crams a lot of story into a relatively short amount of time, the pitch perfect performances hold the movie high up. In almost every actor, there seemed to be real, emotional history to their characters.
I appreciate a film that doesn't need to explain everyone's motivations and history so the audience can just empathically understand the story. The storyline about the middle eastern teenager is particularly devasting not only in its implications for the characters but in the all too possible way in which our post 9/11 government could burn someone so terribly and with such finality.
Much better than its contemporary Crash and more emotionally powerful than Traffic.
