Review of Cross of Iron (1977) by Juha E — 24 Oct 2007
Brilliant. Do a movie about a squad of German infantry on the Russian front. Russia never scraps any of its tanks so you have instant period authenticity. The battle scenes are over the top realistic with the Peckinpah signature slow motion violent death sequences.
As the film progresses to its denouement the action begins to transpire inside the mind of Oberst Brandt who is going off the deep end from the failure of his military career and the trauma of battle.
