Review of Cross of Iron (1977) by Bradford G — 21 Jun 2012
A film that captures many different ironies of WWII. These ironies then give off an anti-war undertone. Some of the characters were confusing and weak, particularly Mason's. It had the usual Peckinpah slow-motion shooting death shots like in "The Wild Bunch".
The film cost a bundle given all the different battles, tanks and airplanes, these were impressive. It's interesting that the film did not do well in the USA but did amazing in Germany. I think the German's felt it captured how they were victims of something they couldn't control.
