Review of Cronos (1993) by Brad G — 08 Dec 2010
Guillermo Del Toro's first film is easily one of my favorite interpretations of the vampire myth. Antiques dealer Federico Lupi stumbles upon an ancient device that grants its victims everlasting life; great! but a dying industrialist and his nose-jobbed nephew (Ron Perlman) are determined to smash & grab the magic for their own.
Like all of Del Toro's flicks, Cronos is more grim fairy tale than straight horror and Luppi's relationship with his granddaughter makes him an incredibly sympathetic monster. VF.
