Basic plot. Revolutionaries in Russia capture a nuclear base and threten to luanch against 'Russia's enemies' America goes on alert. Submarines are launched including the USS Alabama. Captain of this ship is Captain Ramsey (Hackman) his new 2nd in command is Lt com Hunter (Washington) They are from different schools of the navy and they come to logaheads when a Russian sub attacks them after they have been ordered to launch their missiles at Russia. When the sub is attacked a communication from command is cut off and Hunter wants to verify that order Ramsey doesn't. Chaos ensues as the two officers go to increasing lengths to gain control of the ship an order to prove they are right.
If you ever want to see two actors at the top of their game watch this film. This film is made by the permormances of Washington and Hackman. Good support to from Viggo Mortensen, George Dzunza and James Gandolfini.
